Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai
A student organisation based in Government Law College, Mumbai
The Judgement Deliberation Competition (JDC) is a novel and intellectually stimulating event inspired by the procedures of various judicial bodies and tribunals across the spectrum of international law. JDC offers a unique platform for participants to engage in in-depth problem analysis and judgment making. Participants are required to meticulously analyse the facts presented and the arguments advanced, ultimately arriving at a judgment that is infallible in law, rational in thought, and innovative in its essence.
Competition Module
The JDC competition module features a comprehensive case file designed to invite varied interpretations. This wide connotation encourages participants to apply established legal principles while fostering innovative thought based on legal analysis and rational thinking. The case file includes:
-
A comprehensive set of facts discovered by the judicial authority, tribunal, or court.
-
Arguments presented by both parties.
-
Any further evidence, if applicable
Competition Structure
The JDC is structured into two rigorous rounds:
-
Written Judgment Round: Participants must submit their written judgments to the organisers within the declared deadline. This round assesses the participants' ability to craft well-reasoned, legally sound, and innovative judgments based on the provided case file.
-
Oral Rounds: In the subsequent oral rounds, participants present their judgments and defend their reasoning before a panel of judges. This round evaluates their ability to articulate and justify their judgments under scrutiny.
